I turn again to the SEC Eucharistic Prayer for today’s picture.
It would appear that just about every time Jesus appeared to someone he reminded them of what he had said and promised before his Passion and Crucifixtion, then they hadn’t understood, now slowly over these 50 days more and more people were growing in understanding, but there was about to be another shift, another twist in the tale. The promise was never Jesus would be with us in a bodily form of a man in his thirties, but rather the Spirit of God, which had hovered over the waters at creation, had traveled with God’s people down through the centuries, would be with them still in a new and powerful way.
‘… new birth in the Spirit who sets the seal of freedom on your sons and daughters.’
