Jesus had ascended and the disciples waited, a wait which would not be in vain. For although he would no longer suddenly appear in their midst he was going to be constantly with them. Not only them, those whom he had spent time with as he walked the earth, but all those who would come after them, regardless of where they lived. The bonds of human existence would no longer constrict Jesus’ message or his presence.
‘… he whom they had loved and lost is with us now in every place for ever.’
SEC Easter Eucharistic Prayer
What a promise, what a joy! We can go nowhere where the peace of Christ isn’t, where the love of God doesn’t reside, where the help of the Holy Spirit won’t sustain us.
