The inaugural Bearsden Festival is fast approaching.
All the excitement is building, a ghost walk in the dark visiting the Roman Baths and War hero graves hearing their stories with some spooky extras and finding out who won the ghost story competition. Local young bands getting ready to battle it out and discover just who wins the studio recording time. Schools practicing their country dance steps form the grand dance off. Artist and crafty people preparing to exhibit and teach their skills. Scores of musicals being copied for the Big Concert, with world class soloists and conductor. Bunting and banners being hung, posters being stuck up and put through letterboxes. A cacophony of bands, Jazz, Salsa, Pipe to accompany the street BBQ. Vintage cars and knitted spiders being got ready. Fringe events adding to the variety of fun and entertainment happening over the weekend of 13th-15th September.
Oh and of course ‘Peace by Piece’ an installation community art project (fingers crossed) and part of Karl Jenkins ‘The Peacemakers’ set to images with prayers, which is happening at All Saints. It has been more work than I had imagined when I said yes to it, but the final result should be good. Today it is the realisation that the clock is most definitely ticking.
Little did anyone realise just how big this would become when the idea was first mooted. Local traders are keen to be involved, offering some very grand prizes indeed and willingly providing the little extras, along with being involved with the planning and the BBQ.
