Trinity Sunday with St Athanasius

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to thee;
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons,
Blessed Trinity!

The faith of the Church is this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and the Trinity in Unity; neither confusing the Persons; nor dividing the Essence.  For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Spirit.  But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, is all one; the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal.  Such as the Father is; such is the Son; and such is the Holy Spirit.

Holy, holy, holy!
All the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns
Around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim
Falling down before thee,
Which wert, and art,
And evermore shalt be.

The Father uncreated; the Son uncreated; and the Holy Spirit uncreated. The Father infinite; the Son infinite; and the Holy Spirit infinite. The Father eternal; the Son eternal; and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet they are not three eternals; but one eternal. As also there are not three uncreated; nor three infinites, but one uncreated; and one infinite. So likewise the Father is Almighty; the Son Almighty; and the Holy Spirit Almighty.  So the Father is God, the Son God: the Holy Spirit God; and yet they are not three Gods; but one God.

Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye made blind by sin
Thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy,
There is none beside thee,
Perfect in power,
In love, and purity.

So the Father is Lord; the Son Lord; and the Holy Spirit Lord. Yet not three Lords; but one Lord.  We are compelled to acknowledge each Person of the Three to be the One God and Lord; and are forbidden to say, there are three Gods, or three Lords. The Father is made of none; neither created, nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone; not made, nor created; but begotten. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son; neither made, nor created, nor begotten; but proceeding.

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God almighty!
All thy work shall praise thy name,
In earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons,
Blessed Trinity.

So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity none is before, or after another; none is greater, or less than another. But the whole three Persons are coeternal, and coequal. So that in all things, as aforesaid; the Unity in Trinity, and the Trinity in Unity, is to be worshipped, let us thus think of the Trinity.

This is our faith:
We believe in one God, the Trinity in Unity.  Amen.
