Thought for Candlemas

As so the focus turns away from the crib and towards the cross.

The God-bearer, the most pure Virgin, carried the true Light in her arms and brough him to help those who lay in darkness.  In the same way, we too should carry a light for all to see and reflect the radiance of the true light as we hasten to meet him.

Sophronius

Who, you might be wondering is Sophronius.  He was born in Damascus became a monk in Egypt, then the Jordan, then from 619 Jerusalem where he was elected Patriarch of Jerusalem in 634.  He died in 638 shortly after Jerusalem was captured by the Saracens.
