Urquhart Castle

The picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle are south of Inverness jutting out into Loch Ness. It is a popular spot for Nessie spotting although I must admit I am always too enchanted by the Castle to ever do any of that when I am there.

The building has a long and chequered history and was blown up in 1692 to prevent it becoming a Jacobite stronghold. This site http://www.aboutscotland.com/ness/urquhart.html is a good place to find out more if you wish.
