Today, 30th of May, sees the feast of St Joan of Arc.
Joan after a long period of trials and accusations was finally put to the death at the stake in 1431. She asked for a cross, which she held and then was held up before her while the fire was lit.
It is said that she moved even her enemies to tears over the way she conducted herself in the face of death, calling upon Jesus’ name to the very end.
O Lord, you wondrously raised up Joan, your virgin, to defend the Faith and her country in Your name.
Through her intercession grant that the Church may overcome the snares of her enemies, and attain lasting peace.
