Salisbury Cathedral

Spire from cloister

I had never been to Salisbury Cathedral before and what a joy it was, even though our visit was somewhat rushed. It is a splendid example of Medieval architecture, and the start of the restoration to the once colourful roof reminds me of an old fashioned carousel, in a good not a bad way, in case you were wondering.

One of the joys for me at least was the number of angels, both inside and out, here are just a few examples.

The rederos in the Chapel of St Michael and All Angels is magnificent!

We paid a quick visit to the chapter house too - no photographs allowed in there - one of the original copies of the Magna Carta is housed in that grand setting, the document itself however is small and rather unassuming. One day I hope to get back and spend some more time there.

It is many years since I last visted Salisbury cathedral, but the unity of the architecture is remarkable. Did you find a chance to visit the ruins of the former cathedral at Old Sarum?

We also have an original Magna Carta at Lincoln which is now housed in the castle and is arranged to form the climax of a very detailed display explaining the charter’s background.

Wot? No comment on F1? Are you missing the drama?

Lissa it was a bit of a dash and we didn’t have time to see anything else, that will have to wait for the next visit - I certainly want to go back again.

Kenny, I most certianly didn’t miss the drama and there was drama aplenty, however haven’t had time to do a post about it, or a visit to the theatre last week, both of which probably wont be posted about at all now.

Visited Salisbury Cathedral in August 2005, staying in Sarum College. A certain Scottish Cathedral choir were singing there that particular week. Camera was with me so a few pictures taken - http://bonnyton.fotopic.net/c659433.html
